While Caitriona Balfe doesn't know what producers are thinking, the long-running show could end after Outlander Season 7.

The time-travel series has already been confirmed to run for two more seasons. Season 6 of Outlander has already been completed, and the eight episodes will premiere weekly on Mar. 6. Diana Gabaldon's seventh novel, An Echo in the Bone, will be the focus of Season 7, which will be an expanded series of 16 episodes.

Outlander Season 7 will be firmly set during the Revolutionary War, following how the instability in the colonies impacts the happy marriage and their family, if the show continues to follow the course laid out in the novels.

Will the Series Conclude in Outlander Season 7?

Balfe told Vanity Fair that she doesn't know if the upcoming Outlander Season 7 will be the final one. While such a decision is "above [her] pay grade," the actress has her own thoughts on the subject. She notes that Season 7 will represent the show's "almost 10-year mark," which she considers to be a suitable "time frame" for a series to run.

"We will have hit the almost 10-year mark by the end of that, which feels like a nice kind of time frame, but we don’t know. Those decisions are far above my pay grade."

What to Expect in Outlander Season 6

As every Outlander fan knows, completing Season 6 has not been easy. Despite the obstacles, Sam Heughan told the U.K.'s Daily Record in March 2021 that all systems are go.

The Frasers and MacKenzies will be healing from their losses and traumas in the following season, which will pick up where Season 5 left off. They have, however, been reunited as a family, which will help them in overcoming the challenges ahead.

Jamie, Claire, Brianna Randall MacKenzie, Sophie Skelton as Brianna Randall MacKenzie, and Roger MacKenzie will all be back.

Gabaldon's sixth novel, A Breath of Snow and Ashes, will also be the basis for Season 6 of Outlander. Season 5 of Outlander covers a portion of the book's plot, but it's a long novel, so there's a lot more coming.
