The wait is almost over for Jamie and Claire fans. Starz has finally set a premiere date for Outlander Season 6, which began in May 2020 when the Season 5 finale aired.

Furthermore, the announcement of the release date coincides with the announcement that the writers and producers are already working on Season 7.

Outlander Season 6: Are There Any Changes?

Well, like everything else, the pandemic definitely took a toll on the show, and they had to make adjustments just so they can continue and lessen the risk of spreading the virus.

A show like Outlander though, with its infamous steamy sex scenes -- how does that work amid COVID-19’s “no-touch” policy?

On the Outcasts podcast, Executive Producer Maril Davis said that they had purposefully delayed filming until January 2021 in order to properly shoot the scenes. They might not have been able to pull off the steamy scenes the program is known for if they had tried to shoot in 2020 as scheduled.

“We don’t have the kind of show, unfortunately, that can be COVID friendly. That’s something that a lot of studios are talking about, and some shows have the luxury to do that, we do not,” Davis said.

“It’s the least COVID-friendly show ever. It means that maybe there’s no kissing, there’s no interaction; there’s not a lot of actors and extras.”

So it appears like we'll be able to watch Outlander Season 6 the way the universe intended: with a lot of kissing and touching, which is exactly what Jamie and Claire should be doing.

What to Expect in Outlander Season 6

As usual, the show is based on Diana Gabaldon's bestselling book series. This season is based on the novel A Breath of Snow and Ashes, and it takes up right where Season 5 left off.

Claire had just returned to Fraser's Ridge after escaping a tragic and violent meeting with Lionel Brown (Ned Dennehy). Jamie and Claire will face hurdles at home as they strive to overcome Claire's tragic ordeal.

After establishing their lives in North Carolina in Seasons 4 and 5, the family is now attempting to thrive in a society that, as Claire knows, is rapidly approaching the American Revolutionary War.

While it sounds like it'll be awful for our favorite characters - hey, what's new? - and we're sure to see a few sweet moments along the road. Not to mention those sizzling sex scenes.

Outlander Season 6 premieres on Starz on March 6, 2022.
