Osric Chau Opens Up About Ryan Choi’s Entrance into the Arrowverse

Crisis on Infinite Earths finally begins in the Arrowverse next week and with it comes the introduction of fan-favorite Ryan Choi portrayed by Supernatural alum Osric Chau. His arrival into the universe was first announced back in September and with his entrance just days away, he decided to share some of his thoughts during an interview with Newsarama. "I absolutely love playing Ryan," the actor said. "I read the comics a while back and there's a lot of little details that I wanted to put in but being the new guy on set I didn't want to rock the boat too much. If they bring Ryan back, I think I'll have more confidence in putting it in. For some of those little beats, if he takes too long or if he adds in a second -- they just can't do it in the edit, and they'd have to cut it out anyway. So, I think for this I was more concerned of just making sure I did my job before I start throwing in all those little things that I love so much about the comics." He also confessed how he first got into the comics all thanks to a roommate, who suggested that of all the superheroes he could play, it had to be Ryan Choi. This then led to extensive research and eventually getting in touch with co-creator Gail Simone. "We actually put a pitch packet together for Ryan Choi because I did a lot of research and I love the story. I even connected with Gail Simone who is the writer of it. So, when I came to the audition - there were fake sides, but I knew right away I'm like, 'This is Ryan.' Like I told the writers in the room like 'This is Ryan, right?' I think I definitely caught them off guard," Chau further shared in the same interview. He did not go into detail as to how Choi will be introduced, although it should be noted that the character has been referenced in episodes of DC's Legends of Tomorrow and The Flash.

Crisis on Infinite Earths will officially begin on Sunday, December 8's episode of Supergirl, followed by Monday's episode of Batwoman, and then Tuesday's The Flash which will serve as a midseason cliffhanger. The event will close out in January with the midseason premiere of Arrow and "special episode" from DC's Legends of Tomorrow.Related: The CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths Gets an Awesome New Poster
