Oscars Completely Snubs Marvel’s Eternals and Fans Are Acting Out

The 94th Academy Awards has announced their nominees Best Visual Effects and two Marvel Studios films have made it to the list. However, fans arguest that Chloe Zhao’s Eternals should be on the list.

Two Marvel Films have made it for Oscar’s Best Visual Effects category, these two films are Spiderman: No Way Home and Shang-Chi: The Legend of Ten Rings. Though these two successful films have received positive reviews from different film critics and general moviegoers, fans of Eternals argue that the film should also be on the list.

The multi-awarded director Chloe Zhao released Marvel’s Eternals last November of 2021. Eternals’ diverse casting is worth the praise as different actresses from different cultures and different races are cast on the film. The film is joined by Gemma Chan, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden, Kit Harrington, Don Lee, Barry Keoghan, Lia McHugh, and Angelina Jolie.

The plot of the film introduced new superheroes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe that serves the celestials but started to question their purpose when they discovered their real mission on Earth.

The film was controversial because of different reasons; It's the first-ever Marvel movie that has a sex scene, the lowest Marvel movie score in Rotten Tomatoes, and didn’t succeed in making an emotional hook for viewers to relate to.

However, the audience score of Eternals is 78%. Which isn't bad at all.

But what the fans are pointing to is the Eternal’s visual effects.

Shang-chi and Spiderman might have great visual effects, but we cannot argue that Marvel’s Eternals also deserve to be on the spot. The film delivered good visual effects specifically on their portrayal of the Celestials and some sequences of the universe.

We understand the disappointment but one thing we are sure of is that the Oscars have their own standard and qualifications before choosing a film to nominate. Marvel’s Eternals is rumored to have a sequel that will be released in 2024 and we will surely see its astonishing visual effects in the future.

Eternal is streaming on Disney+.
