Original Solo: A Star Wars Story Director Had Bigger Plans for Lando

Now that Disney's Star Wars trilogy has finished, it's clear that they underused John Boyega. Finn had an intriguing arc during The Force Awakens, which was sadly redone in The Last Jedi, before only screaming "REEEEEY" a lot during The Rise of Skywalker. It looks like Disney and LucasFilm are regretting how they've used him now that his passion was shown off during a big Black Lives Matter protest.

This led to a lot of talk on how Star Wars hasn't really used its black characters too well. Lando was just okay in the original trilogy, Mace Windu got a few moments during the prequel trilogy, and we already discussed what happened to Finn. When Polygon brought up how Boyega's Finn could have been a different kind of hero for Star Wars, Phil Lord reveals that he tried to give Lando a more relevant role in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

While Lord didn't elaborate on any of this in his vague tweet, fans are now interested to see what Lord and Miller had planned for Solo. Unfortunately, we'll never know how it could have gone but they did end up producing Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which managed to be inclusive and fantastic in its own right.

As many of us know, Solo: A Star Wars Story was production hell on a grand scale, with the folks at LucasFilm firing original directors Phil Lord and Christopher. There were also rumors that lead actor Alden Ehrenreich needed to get acting lessons mid-production, which did not instill a lot of confidence in Star Wars fans, hence the disappointing box office. Funnily enough, the movie ended up being quite good and is seen as an underrated gem to Star Wars fans.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is now available on digital platforms, Blu-Ray, DVD, and the Disney+ streaming service.
