Original Disney-era Narnia star Anna Popplewell shares her reaction to Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Netflix adaptation of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew.

From 2005 to 2008, Popplewell played young Susan Pevensie in Disney’s adaptations of The Chronicles of Narnia books, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Prince Caspian.

Anna Popplewell was only 17 years old when she first played Susan Pevensie in the 2005 Disney film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Although more than two decades have passed and she has taken on several different roles since then, she remains known for playing one of the four Pevensie children in the world of Narnia.

Now that a new Narnia adaptation is on the way, what does one of the original stars think of it?

"I think it looks really exciting,” she said at the recent Comic Con Brussels (via Steven De Vos). “It looks very different from the world that we created in our adaptation and I think I would expect that from Greta Gerwig.”

The now 37-year-old star had nothing but praise for the Barbie director, calling her “wonderful” and noting that it would be surprising if she didn't bring her own spin to the franchise.

“She's such a wonderful director and writer, but it would be very surprising if she didn't have her own take on Narnia,” she continued. “The music is amazing . . . I can't wait to watch it."

Popplewell was likely referring to Led Zeppelin's 1971 hit song "Stairway to Heaven," which plays in the background of the Narnia: The Magician's Nephew trailer.

Not only does the song mark the first time it has been licensed for use on screen, but it also highlights one of the major changes fans can expect from Gerwig's adaptation, alongside its unconventional song choice and psychedelic visuals.

Narnia: The Magician's Nephew

The Magician’s Nephew is the sixth book in C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia series.

Serving as a prequel to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and its sequels, the story explores the beginning of Narnia’s in-universe timeline.

It follows Digory Kirke (David McKenna) and Polly Plummer (Beatrice Campbell) as they travel through portals to other worlds.

During their journey, they encounter Jadis (Emma Mackey) in the land of Charn and witness the creation of Narnia itself.

In addition to McKenna and Campbell, the cast includes Meryl Streep as the voice of Aslan and Daniel Craig as Andrew Ketterley, Digory’s uncle.

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew is set to debut in theaters on February 12, 2027, before arriving on Netflix on April 2, 2027.
