Coming off its thrilling season 4 finale, fans of Only Murders in the Building have been wondering whether Paul Rudd will return to play another character in season 5.
The beloved actor has played two different roles in the last two seasons of the series. However, both of them faced their untimely demise. With the series returning for season 5, will we see another Rudd character on the horizon?
Paul Rudd's Role in Only Murders in the Building
In the third season of Only Murders in the Building, Rudd notably played the role of Ben Glenroy, an actor who was murdered during the opening night of Oliver's Broadway musical.
The murder of Ben Glenroy became the central investigation of the trio during the season. The character also appeared in various flashback sequences.
To the surprise of many fans, Rudd made his comeback in season 4 where he played a different character this time round.
During the recent season, Rudd played the role of Glen Stubbins, Ben's Irish stunt double who is also an associate of Sazz. He was originally going to be part of the Only Murders in the Building movie.
Unfortunately, Glen met his demise during the ninth episode where he was killed by Rex Bailey after he woke up from a coma. Rex is revealed to be the main suspect behind the murder of Sazz.
Will Paul Rudd Return in Only Murders in the Building Season 5?
With Rudd playing two different characters in seasons 3 and 4 of Only Murders in the Building, it poses a question of whether we will see him play another character in season 5.
After all, the actor has proven his versatility in the series and the audience has embraced the idea of him playing various roles.
In a recent interview, showrunner John Hoffman addressed Rudd's potential return in season 5. While he didn't confirm whether he will appear, he explained that he is open to bringing him back again in the series.
"I mean, Paul likes a good, repetitive joke. The fact that he likes the show as much as he does, and keeps at it with us, moves me to the point of making terrible choices. Dramatically, I can’t take anything off the table for him or for Jane Lynch. Or anyone else, frankly," he said.
Who knows, perhaps Rudd's potential next character will make it out in the end and won't meet his demise, unlike his previous roles in the series.
