Only Murders in the Building Season 2 is ‘so different,’ according to Selena Gomez

Gomez discussed the new season with Marc Malkin on Just For Variety. She stated that the show's co-creator, John Hoffman, had ideas for Only Murders in the Building Season 2 before Season 1 wrapped.

“Another season was casually thrown around, but then John started spewing these ideas out and sure enough they have come into fruition,” Gomez said, per Variety.

Gomez continued, sharing her reaction to reading the Only Murders in the Building Season 2 script. “When I was reading it, I was really really shocked because this is so different,” she said. “But it’s what makes the show so great.”

“They did such a great job creating another story,” she added.

Only Murders in the Building Season 2 focuses on Bunny's death

The killer of Tom Kono (Julian Cihi) was exposed in the Only Murders in the Building Season 1 finale. But that wasn't the end of the story. Before the episode ended, Oliver, Charles, and Mabel had to investigate another homicide in the building.

The episode ended with Oliver and Charles discovering Mabel kneeling over Bunny's (Jayne Houdyshell) dead body. When police arrived at the Arconia, they immediately detained Mabel, Oliver, and Charles.

Needless to say, there are many unanswered questions. The most pressing question is, who murdered Bunny, and why did they frame Mabel?

How Selena Gomez channeled Mabel

A fresh chapter for Mabel, Charles, and Oliver isn't the only thing that happens in Only Murders in the Building Season 2. For Gomez, it represents a transition as well.

“It’s cool because personally in my life since I started season 1 to doing Season 2, I changed so much,” she said. “I know that it’s a small amount of time, but I think it kind of carried on into Mabel.”

Gomez went on to call Mabel from Season 2 "super cool." “If anything, there’s just more of a sophistication to her,” she explained. “Her style gets better. She’s like super cool. I cut my hair. So it’s a whole fresh start for Mabel.”

Only Murders in the Building Season 2 will be available for streaming on June 28, with two new episodes. Following that, new episodes of the show will be available on Hulu every Tuesday at 12 a.m. PT / 3 a.m. ET.
