- Quick Answer: Mark Hamill deleted an AI image depicting Donald Trump's gravesite following a White House rebuke, later clarifying he wished for Trump's legal accountability, not death.
The Force is far from balanced as a digital war of words erupts between a Jedi legend and the 47th President. After years of vocal opposition, Star Wars icon Mark Hamill finds himself at the center of a firestorm following his controversial social media post that drew an aggressive response from the White House.
Mark Hamill Deletes Controversial Donald Trump Meme
The recent firestorm began when Hamill posted an image on his Bluesky account on Wednesday showing an AI-generated Donald Trump lying in a shallow grave marked "1946-2024" with the caption, "If Only."
Through the caption, Hamill expressed his utter disappointment over Trump's crimes since before his presidency: "He should live long enough to witness his inevitable devastating loss in the midterms, be held accountable for his unprecedented corruption, impeached, convicted & humiliated for his countless crimes," Hamill wrote, "Long enough to realize he'll be disgraced in the history books, forevermore." In response, the White House's Rapid Response 47 communications account on X posted: “.@MarkHamill is one sick individual. These Radical Left lunatics just can’t help themselves. This kind of rhetoric is exactly what has inspired three assassination attempts in two years against our President.”
Hamill's post came 11 days after 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen, a tutor and programmer from Torrance, California, was apprehended at the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington, D.C.) Hilton.
Hamill subsequently took down his post and shared an updated version of his message without the controversial grave image: "Accurate Edit for Clarity: 'He should live long enough to... be held accountable for his... crimes," Hamill said in the new post, which came with an unflattering photo of Trump, "Actually, I was wishing him the opposite of dead, but apologize if you found the image inappropriate."
This is Not the Star Wars Icon's First Rodeo with the President

This is not the first time the Luke Skywalker actor clashed with the President over controversial online posts, calling him out. Just last week, Hamill appeared in a viral video with Barack Obama to promote the Obama Presidential Center, further fueling the administration's claims that Hollywood elites are against the current leadership.
On April 28, he shared a seemingly AI-generated image that parodied Trump's photo holding his fist above his head after the alleged assassination attempt near Butler, Pa. The photo also happened to feature fellow Trump critic Jimmy Kimmel in the position of the president, along with Guillermo Rodriguez and fellow late-night hosts Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers.
"He hates comedy because it speaks truth to power & a malignant narcissist can't handle that," Hamill wrote at the time, "Period. End of story."
Interestingly, the White House almost always retaliated used imagery from Hamill's most iconic project, Star Wars, to cast the president in a favorable light as one of the good guys. A year prior, the official White House account posted an image of Trump holding a red lightsaber, under the assumption that holding just any lightsaber meant Trump was a hero. But Hamill never really let them off the hook.
While Hamill has since clarified that his "If Only" caption referred to a wish for 'accountability' rather than a death wish, it marked a new low for the relationship between the Jedi icon and the current administration. As midterms approach, the war of memes between Hollywood's "Resistance" and Washington's "Imperial" imagery shows no signs of ceasefire.
