One Piece Chapter 1,049 Recap
While Luffy and Kaido clash, Kaido commends Luffy for fighting hard to reach where he is now. However, Kaido argues that he can't change the world.
The chapter shows multiple flashbacks from Kaido's life. At ten years old, he's already the strongest in his kingdom.
Kaido's country doesn't know what to do with him, so they plan to put Kaido with the Marines. However, Kaido has escaped from the Marines multiple times.
Eventually, Kaido joins the Rocks Pirates along with Whitebeard and Big Mom. Later on, Higurashi tells Kaido about how throughout history, strength has solved humanity's problems. The type of world Kaido wishes to create is a world where war decides a man's worth.
In a conversation with King, King says Oden's wish to open Wano's to the world is supposedly also meant to welcome Joyboy. At present, Yamato continues to motivate Momonosuke while he struggles to make Flame Clouds.
Raizo and Jimbei begin pouring water around the castle to put out the fire. Denjiro praises Hiyori for remaining strong after all this time.
Kaido's Flame Clouds have disappeared, and the island starts falling. Kaido asks Luffy what kind of world he can make; Luffy says he will create a world where his friends can eat as much food as they desire. Momonosuke successfully creates Flame Clouds.
Luffy lands a final blow on Kaido. As he falls down from the sky, Kaido remembers his conversation with King, where he tells him that Joyboy is a man who will show up to beat him. Kaido and Luffy are both knocked out.
