A while ago, we've heard that Marvel Studios is developing a Halloween special that will center on Werewolf by Night and they are looking for a Latino actor for the lead. Now, we know who they've cast for the role.
TheWrap has reported that Old star Gael Garcia Bernal has been cast to star in the werewolf-focused special which will premiere on Disney+. The exact details of his role are still under wraps except that it is based on Werewolf by Night which has two iterations in the comics: Jack Russell and Jake Gomez. It is unknown which version will Garcia Bernal be playing. Production for the special is set to begin next year.
Garcia Bernal is a talented actor who has starred in numerous critically-acclaimed films such as Y tu mamá también, Babel, and Coco so he is definitely a great hire for Marvel. But the most interesting part of this news is that they are officially moving forward with a Werewolf by Night-focused project which extends the MCU's exploration of the supernatural side. Also, in the comics, it was in a Werewolf by Night issue where Moon Knight made his debut. This marks two questions: Will Moon Knight also appear in the special? and Will Werewolf by Night be referenced in the upcoming Moon Knight series?
This also shows that the MCU is expanding big time when it comes to the television side. They have aired a few shows already such as WandaVision and Loki and a lot more coming such as Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and many more. They've also announced last year that they are working on The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special which will be their first Christmas-themed special. Now, they are venturing into Halloween with Werewolf by Night which perfectly fits. It is unknown yet if the character will make his way in the other MCU projects.
