The much-awaited Netflix series, Gyeongseong Creature, has finally been released. While avid fans of Han So Hee and Park Seo Jun have been waiting for the show, other actors also star in the series. Who does Ok Ja Yeon play in Gyeongseong Creature?
Who Is Korean Actress Ok Ja Yeon?
Ok Ja Yeon is a South Korean actress who grew up with schoolteacher parents. When she was younger, Ok originally planned to become a lawyer.
However, because her grades failed to meet the admission requirements of Seoul National University, Ok wasn't able to pursue her initial goal. Instead, she decided to major in aesthetics.
After seeing Jang Min Ho perform in the play Snow in March, Ok was moved. She would later refer to this as what spawned her love for theater and acting. Thus, this led to her interest in becoming an actress.
She decided to pursue acting at 25 years old. She debuted in the 2012 theater play titled Guest.
Who Does Ok Ja Yeon Play in Gyeongseong Creature?
In Gyeongseong Creature, Ok Ja Yeon surprised her fans with her supporting role as Na Yeong Chun.
She appears to be the owner of Moonlight Bar, a speakeasy frequented by Kwon Jun Taek (played by Wi Ha Jun). She also seems to be in love with Master Jang.
Despite her minor role, she has a significant part in helping lead Jang Tae Sang (played by Park Seo Jun) to the Japanese artist that Yoon Chae Ok (played by Han So Hee) was looking for.
After learning that Master Jang is looking for Ryu Sachimoto (played by Woo Ji Hyun), Yeong Chun finds him sitting at the bar while sketching a woman.
This leads her to set a meeting between the two men, which Master Jang is unable to attend because he got attacked outside.
Later on, Yeong Chun brings Sachimoto to Master Jang's pawnshop and helps him get inside Ongseong Hospital.
Where You've Seen Ok Ja Yeon Before
Interestingly, this isn't the first time Ok is working with Woo Ji Hyun. In fact, the two previously starred in a 2021 Korean indie film called Ghost Image.
Throughout Ok's career, she has played minor and supporting roles in stage plays, TV dramas, and films. She landed her first main role in the 2021 TV series, Mine.
This earned her recognition for playing a villain, which also led to a Best Supporting Actress nomination at the 58th Baeksang Arts Awards.
She also earned her first Best Actress award at the 23rd Jeonju International Film Festival for her role in the indie film, The Archeology of Love.
Her other shows include Queenmaker, Under the Queen's Umbrella, The Uncanny Counter, The Age of Shadows, Two Cops, and The Beast.
