Spring 2024 will feature lots of highly anticipated shonen and isekai anime, though the sports genre will also be well represented. That’s because the baseball anime Oblivion Battery got an April release date announcement in a new trailer.
While there have been many sports anime over the past few years that feature games like volleyball and soccer, Oblivion Battery will be all about Japan’s favorite sport – baseball.
What Is the Oblivion Battery Anime About?
Titled Bokyaku Battery in Japan, the Oblivion Battery anime is based on an ongoing Shonen Jump+ manga of the same name.
This makes it the latest Jump+ title to get an adaptation, with more to come this year like Kaiju No. 8 and Dandadan.
It got a short original net animation from MAPPA back in October 2020. Now though, a proper anime series adaptation has been announced.
This series’ story follows the genius pitcher Haruka Kiyomine and the expert catcher Kei Kaname. The two were teammates back in their junior high school days.
One day, Kei loses his memory. The two then join a no-name high school, where they meet previous players they defeated in junior high.
Oblivion Battery Cast and Staff Revealed
The Oblivion Battery anime features a stacked voice cast, which includes the following VAs:
- Toshiki Masuda (Porco Galliard in Attack on Titan) as Haruka Kiyomine
- Mamoru Miyano (Rintarou Okabe in Steins;Gate) as Kei Kaname
- Yohei Azakami (Masayoshi Hashimoto in Classroom of the Elite) as Aoi Todo
- Nobunaga Shimazaki (Mahito in Jujutsu Kaisen) as Shunpei Chihaya
- Yuki Kaji (Kenma Kozume in Haikyuu) as Taro Yamada
- Yoshitaka Yamaya (Itsuki Kawasumi in The Rising of the Shield Hero) as Kazuki Tsuchiya
- Takeo Otsuka (Jinshi in The Apothecary Diaries) as Eiichiro Kokuto
- Mark Ishii (Chrono Shindo in Cardfight!! Vanguard) as Hironobu Makita
- Kengo Kawanishi (Eita Otoya in Blue Lock) as Shuto Kirishima
Animating the series is MAPPA, the studio behind mega-hit shows like Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan The Final Season.
Directing the series at MAPPA is Eijuu Takashima (an episode director for Chainsaw Man). He is joined by scriptwriter Michiko Yokote and character designer Hitomi Hasegawa.

Oblivion Battery Anime Gets April Release Date
Previously, the show was only confirmed to be released sometime in spring 2024. Finally, the new Oblivion Battery trailer revealed its April 9 24:00 JST release date.
Technically, that means its release is on April 10 at midnight Japan time. Thus, it should be released in the US on April 9.
The release date was shared in a new trailer that previewed the show’s theme songs.
Performing the opening is Mrs. Green Apple (of Fire Force fame), and it is titled Lilac. Meanwhile, the ED is titled Wasurena Uta by Macaroni Enpitsu (Summer Time Rendering OP).
Where to Watch the Oblivion Battery Anime
In Japan, the Oblivion Battery anime will air on TV Tokyo, TV Osaka, and other TX Network channels.
For now, there’s no word yet on a streaming platform partner for the anime outside of Japan.
