The Star Wars prequel trilogy isn't flawless by any stretch of the imagination but it's still celebrated by diehard fans of the franchise the world over thanks to the dynamic duo of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen breathed new life into the iconic characters of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. Kicking off in 1999, the follow-up to the iconic original trilogy spawned films such as The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith which all failed to meet expectations from a fan standpoint.

Now, ahead of Obi-Wan's production start date, Ewan is opening up about his astonishing Star Wars journey and despite earning the respect of fans through the years with his performance, he's well-aware of the backlash the prequels have generated especially during its time.

In a new feature on The Hollywood Reporter, McGregor shared his true sentiments after the prequel trilogy flopped and according to him, it was hard having to put up with all the fan backlash. He explains: "[It] was hard they didn't get well received. That was quite difficult. They were universally not very much liked."

Although it failed to hit the mark initially, fans of the Star Wars franchise have grown to appreciate the prequels over the years despite their evident flaws. And even I have to admit, Episodes I, II, and III have this certain charm to them and it's hard to pinpoint where exactly it's coming from. Or maybe the sequel films are just so bad, they made the prequels more acceptable? I don't really know.

Meanwhile, Star Wars' Obi-Wan series is scheduled for release in 2022.
