Obi-Wan Kenobi Writer Reveals Reva Was Originally Going to Be Killed Off

By the end of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Reva, who was initially introduced as a villain before the revelation regarding her backstory, left the dark side and eventually survived the events of the series. Her fate had a divisive response amongst fans as some of them expressed that they didn't feel any redemption from her to deserve her survival. However, as it turns out, that wasn't supposed to be her endgame.

In a recent interview with The Direct, Obi-Wan Kenobi writer Stuart Beattie revealed his original plans for Reva when he wrote the original draft of the script back when it was supposed to be a feature film before it was reconceived as a six-episode series. Beattie revealed that the character was his creation and is also heavily involved in the story of the movie script.

"Yeah, except the only little difference in mine was she didn't know Darth Vader was Anakin," Beattie said. "Cause I was like, 'How'd she know that?' All she saw was Anakin as Anakin because he hadn't changed in the suit yet, right? So Anakin killed her friends, put the scar on her, almost killed her, left her for dead, basically."

"So, in her mind, the Jedi Council were the biggest villains in the galaxy," he continued. "She believed the lies that they were plotting a coup to overtake and get power and all that, but they were stopped by the Clones. So she believed that's why she's hunting Jedi, because she believed the Jedi are the worst, basically."

However, in his version, the story ends with Reva dying at the hands of Darth Vader in order to save Kenobi. "Because I figured, 'How would she know that this thing in a mechanical suit that everyone calls Darth Vader is the guy who killed her, or tried to kill her?'," he said. "So, it was Obi-Wan kind of letting her in on that secret and that revelation that makes her kind of go, 'Oh my god, I've been wrong this whole time.'"

He continued, "And so she goes and basically saved Kenobi by sacrificing herself, telling Vader, 'I killed Kenobi.' And then Vader killed her, [with her] knowing that Vader would kill her. So, that kind of completed her arc. So just a little bit different that she was, yeah, absolutely, the Inquisitor hunting Kenobi all the way through and driven by her own personal demons."

Beattle noted that he felt that she "had to die" and that's how far he thinks she should go in the story since "you can only redeem so much." He also revealed that in his original plans for the story, there were no other Inquisitors in the story except for Reva.

It is interesting to hear that Reva was originally going to kill off in the story which is a decision that some fans may or may not agree with it if the series also went in that direction. At the end of the day, the fate of someone's character will feel earned depending on the writing of their arc and it sounds like that might have been the case in the original plan.

For now, we don't know yet why the writers who took over the project decided to have Reva survive in the end. Perhaps they have plans for the character in a future project and we will never know the answer until it materializes or someone involved in the show will speak out about it.
