Nicolas Cage Debunks Ghost Rider's Return in the MCU

We all know that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is continuously expanding and keeps on introducing new characters to the franchise over the years. The MCU is also set to reinvent some well-known characters from the past, like Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man who made a surprise appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. With No Way Home's brief introduction to the multiverse storyline, we witnessed how this new saga can bring back any characters from the past.

One particular character fans would love to see again is Nicolas Cage's enigmatic Ghost Rider. Nicolas Cage appeared as Ghost Rider in live-action for two solo films, from 2007 and 2011, just when the MCU is just getting started.

While many speculations claim that Nicolas Cage will be back again to reprise his role as the Ghost Rider, however, the actor never confirmed any plans on joining the MCU franchise.

In an interview with Brandon Davis from Comicbook, Ghost Rider star addressed the possibility of returning to the role with Marvel Studios.

When asked if he'd spoken to the Marvel President, Kevin Feige, Cage honestly responded, “Not yet, no. That hasn’t happened..."

Cage recently commented on his love for Comic book characters and fans assumed that the actor is hinting at a potential reprisal of his role as Ghost Rider. However, Cage addressed how his previous comment wasn't specifically aimed at his return to the beloved Marvel character:

“But what’s interesting is nobody asked me about going back to Ghost Rider. That was a question that came up and they weren’t asking about Ghost Rider, they were asking, 'What do you think of the Marvel movies?' And I gave my opinion about it.”

Davis then took a shot to ask Cage about what he thought about reprising his role as Ghost Rider, to which Cage simply answered, “Ghost Rider is an amazing character. I mean, he’s a complicated character. It’s kind of like, how do you tell the story of Faust within the context of that universe? Because, it’s a very philosophical character. I think it makes him special from other superheroes.”

Looks like the Ghost Rider character isn't being developed into the MCU yet, but many rumors also claim that The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus will be the next in line to play the enigmatic character. With Cage's future in the MCU, nothing is confirmed yet.

Recasting A-list actor Nicolas Cage into the MCU would be really interesting, especially after the actor revealed that he is no longer interested in playing heavy roles, attending awards night, and just wants to appear in films that the actor personally finds interesting. Whether the actor will be back as Johnny Blaze AKA the Ghost Rider, with the multiverse concept in mind, the MCU can easily bring him back.
