The BL anime genre continues to expand as more titles are released every season. In the spring 2024 season, Tadaima, Okaeri is the latest addition to the beloved genre. From Twilight Out of Focus to A Shoulder to Cry On, here are the new and upcoming BL anime to look forward to in 2024.
Baban Baban Ban Vampire
In addition to the anime series adaptation, Baban Baban Ban Vampire will have a live-action film in 2025, according to an announcement made on February 29 during Japan's Garlic Day celebration.
Baban Baban Ban Vampire is a BL "Bloody Love Comedy" anime that follows the relationship between a vampire and his desired thrall. It revolves around Ranmaru, a 450-year-old vampire who decided to work in an old public bath house.
There, Ranmaru tries his best to protect the virginity of 15-year-old Rihito in his attempt to taste an 18-year-old’s virgin blood.
SAYE: Warm Sun
SAYE: Warm Sun is yet another Chinese BL anime based on the novel of the same name by Chinese author Wu Zhe.
This upcoming anime is a blend of romance and slice-of-life that explores mature themes like family drama, bullying, domestic violence, abuse, and terminal illness.
The anime revolves around Jiang Cheng, an ambitious young man who discovers the dark side of his family.
He not only forgot about his dreams, but he also plunged into depression until he encountered Gu Fei, a young man who knows how to care for others.
AWM: PUBG
Tencent Penguin Pictures and B.CMAY Pictures are teaming up to produce the anime adaptation of Chinese author Man Man He Qi Duo’s web novel titled AWM Juedi Qiusheng.
Set in a world where E-sports is the biggest thing, E-sports star Qi Zui teams up with a rookie star named Yu Yang in the hopes of creating a new legend.
Yu Yang is not an easy person to deal with. He often acts cold and aloof, but deep inside, he has a fiery passion for playing games.
With Qi Zui’s help, Yu Yang rose in the world of e-sports, and it didn’t take long before they were called God Qi and God Yang!
Defective Lovers
Defective Lovers, also known as Daihao: Kuangxin, is an upcoming Chinese BL anime.
Similar to A Shoulder to Cry On, Defective Lovers has no exact release date at the moment.
The series is based on Qiyan and Dengsha’s ongoing drama, mystery, and supernatural BL manhua of the same name.
It tells the story of two young men of different backgrounds and personalities with the same goal of solving countless supernatural mystery cases.
While Qian Cuo is a hot-tempered criminal investigation captain, Teng Ruiyu is a cold-blooded detective with the highest IQ.
Together, they solve cases until they become involved in a series of crimes involving alchemy.
A Shoulder to Cry On
As of writing, A Shoulder to Cry On's anime adaptation has no release date yet, so fans would have to wait for further news and updates.
A Shoulder to Cry On, otherwise known as Sonyeoneul Wirohaejwo, revolves around Dayeol and his love-hate relationship with the devilishly handsome and mischievous Taehyun.
Their story begins when Taehyun claims that Dayeol was trying to make out with him in the nurse’s office.
This incident threatens Dayeol’s archery scholarship, but Taehyun makes things worse by sticking with him every single day, fueling the rumors around the school.
Will Taehyun and Dayeol get along well? Stay tuned!
The Perfect Prince Loves Me, the Side Character?!
If you’re looking for a new BL isekai anime, then look no further and watch The Perfect Prince Loves Me, the Side Character?!.
It is an ongoing BL anime released in the spring 2024 season, with episodes lasting seven minutes each. So far, only three out of eight episodes have been released.
The Perfect Prince Loves Me, the Side Character?! revolves around Loneal, a young man who gets reincarnated inside the world of a novel, where he meets the handsome prince, Alec.

Twilight Out of Focus
Studio DEEN is back with yet another BL anime for fans of the genre.
This time, the studio renowned for bringing iconic BL anime like Junjou Romantica and Super Lovers to life is producing the anime adaptation for the Twilight Out of Focus manga by Jyanome.
The anime will arrive in summer 2024 and will focus on the budding romance between a film enthusiast named Mao Tsuchiya and his roommate, Hisashi Otome.
Mao and Hisashi have three promises to meet while living together in the dorms. As much as they want to keep these promises, situations in real life make things more difficult.
