If you've been following the rich history of the Marvel film franchise over the years, chances are you're well-aware of the fact that Leonardo DiCaprio was once upon a time eyed for a Spider-Man project which would've been helmed by his Titanic director James Cameron. The idea for the supposed project was first conceptualized back in the '90s but it ultimately got canned. That was long before Sam Raimi's trilogy starring Tobey Maguire entered the fray.

Leo has worked on several critically-acclaimed films in the past but the actor previously stated that he'd still be down to star in a superhero film project. Fast forward to 20 something years following his canned Spidey project, DiCaprio is now being rumored to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to the latest report from We Got This Covered, Leo is in active talks with Marvel Studios for potential involvement in the billion-dollar franchise. Of course, like all rumors, take everything with a huge grain of salt.

If Leo is in fact joining the MCU, now would be the perfect time for him to realize his Spider-Man dreams. I think it would be cool to see him as a future Peter Parker from an alternate dimension but considering the fact that the MCU's third Spidey film starring Tom Holland has already begun filming and Sony previously dismissing the Spider-Verse rumors, that one seems to be out of the question. Still, an actor of Leo's caliber will always have a place in the MCU. If this rumor ends up being true, it's going to be a huge score for Kevin Feige and his crew.

In the meantime, Spider-Man 3 is slated to hit cinemas in December 2021.
