It looks like the Game of Thrones Season 8 backlash is still following the showrunners around although they are already preparing for their new project. A new petition is calling on Disney to remove David Benioff and D.B. Weiss from an upcoming Star Wars film.
Petitions have turned into a new way for people to make themselves heard. These petitions are being launched in hopes to renew TV shows, pursue the casting of certain actors, or in the case of Game of Thrones, redo the entire final season. However, the petition to rewrite GOT Season 8 isn't the only one that involves the show's writers.
The new petition is addressed to the Walt Disney Company and states that having Benioff and Weiss involved in the new Star Wars movie "is not only a controversial decision but a mistake, plain and simple." It points out that the writers are incapable of creating a story that will satisfy Star Wars fans.
"It is in the company's best interest to remove David Benioff and D.B. Weiss as writers on their upcoming film. The writers have a crutch for plot devices and rushed stories, with emphasis on 'shock and awe' storytelling and eager to leave projects half-finished when they have other projects on the horizon. Their respect of lore alone does not make them fit for this project," it reads.
That's probably not the most interesting thing about the petition. For some reason, it was actually created by George R.R. Martin.
Of course, it's probably not the real GRRM who has launched the petition. After all, the A Song of Ice and Fire author has been supportive of Benioff and Weiss and their new project. Nevertheless, the petition has already earned more than 12,000 signatures.
