New Last Airbender Comic Announced Centered on Toph's Metalbending Academy

Avatar: The Last Airbender has recently found a new fanbase thanks to Netflix, and though Aang's story has ended with the series, it does get to continue in the form of comics.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a new Avatar graphic novel has been announced, and it will center on everyone's favorite Blind Bandit, Toph Beifong. Dubbed Avatar: The Last Airbender – Toph Beifong's Metalbending Academy, the story is centered on Toph as she attempts to pass on what she's learned about metalbending to some unwitting students.

Dark Horse is said to have described the comic as ‘the ultimate continuation' of the animated series, but any fan knows that Aang's story has been going on for a while since 2012. There are a lot of other fascinating graphic novels set in the Avatar universe from The Promise to Katara and the Pirate's Silver which comes out this year. ATLA: TBMA is just another in a long list of titles to check out.

With Netflix attempting to pursue a live-action Avatar series, it would make sense to cash in on the hype right now. With The Legend of Korra set to come out this month, fans are hoping that Netflix considered adapting the comic stories into animated OVAs for the Last Airbender. I mean, a live-action series could be great, but I'd rather see more stories than just remakes of ones we have already.

When are we going to get the show about the Avatar after Korra that lives in the 2000s version of that world?

Avatar: The Last Airbender – Toph Beifong's Metalbending Academy comes out Feb. 16, 2021.
