Shazam! and Avengers: Endgame may be seeing most of the attention this April, and the Hellboy reboot is coming out as the underdog film for the month of April. The movie comes out next week, and Lionsgate has released this new featurette highlighting all the practical effects used for the movie.
With Guillermo del Toro out of the picture, a lot of people were worried that this movie would lose the feel of the Hellboy franchise that made the films so popular. I have to say though, the monsters still look amazing, and the prosthetics are a huge improvement of what's come before it. I mean, those muscles on David Harbour's Hellboy look like actual muscles.
Like I said, the movie is coming out to be the runt of superhero films this month. Besides the del Toro fans actively hating on the film when it was first announced, the movie has to go up against the likes of Shazam! and Endgame. Shazam! actually had a good chance coming out in the beginning of the month, but imagine how Hellboy will fare against the most anticipated movie of the year.
If you ask me, they should've waited to release the movie in June. It may have fared better against something like X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Or maybe they should have waited for a Halloween release. With Joker coming out as a psychological film, some people might be looking for a monster-filled action movie.
Fingers crossed my speculations are wrong.
