New Doctor Strange 2 Director Could be Announced by the End of January

Marvel has caught one of its first major snags for the year after it was announced that director Scott Derrickson has exited the Doctor Strange sequel. Apparently the movie is still set to begin production this May, and we could get the replacement director announcement soon.

According to The GWW's Thomas Polito, Marvel could be planning on announcing the new director for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness by the end of January. Of course, this isn't official yet, but it would make sense for Marvel to find a director soon. If not, then I'm actually fine if the movie gets delayed from its original 2021 release.

We don't know what ‘creative differences' led Derrickson to leave in the first place, but some thought that he was adamant about making Doctor Strange 2 a horror film. Of course, that's only fan speculation at this point. Until Marvel or Derrickson makes an official announcement on what the original plan was, all we can really do is guess.

Personally, I would love for Rick and Morty co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland to try their hand at the film. We know they can do very interesting things with Multiverses, and with the way the show has mocked the MCU, I would love to see what Harmon or Roiland would like to bring to the table. Let's just hope Harmon can keep the meta-commentary at a low with this film—should Marvel consider him that is.

For now, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is still set for a release on May 7, 2021.
