New Demon Slayer Song Wins Song of the Year


The hype of the Demon Slayer franchise continues as the theme song for the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train Arc anime titled Akeboshi was awarded as one of the Songs of the Year in the 63rd Japan Record Awards.

The performer of this hit anime track is none other than LiSA, who also did the hit theme song for the first season titled Gurenge. The awarding ceremony will be aired on December 30 in Japan on channel TBS.

The opening theme song Akeboshi is for the seven-episode anime version of the hit Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train anime film. The song is the most downloaded song digitally (75,630 downloads) by a female artist in its first week of release.

Aside from LiSA winning an award in this the Japan Record Awards, performers Bank Band, Ado, Takashi Matsumoto, and YAOSOBI also received the Special Achievement Awards, which honor individuals whose works have garnered widespread attention inside and outside Japan.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train premiered in Japan on October 16, 2020. The film was screened during the COVID-19 pandemic. The film was later screened outside of Japan. Although health and safety protocols were being placed in movie theaters, the movie was able to earn a box office gross of over $503 million, and it is officially the highest-grossing film of 2020. It is also the highest-grossing Japanese film of all time.

The anime series version of the film aired on October 10, 2021, which is just the anime film being separated into episodes with some additional scenes that were not shown in the anime film.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba was created by Koyoharu Gotouge and was first launched in the Weekly Shonen Jump from February 2016 until May 2020. The anime adaptation skyrocketed the hype of the franchise which aired from April to September 2019.
