New Deadpool Cartoon In The Works

Not all hope is lost for a Deadpool animated series. Rob Liefield, the legendary creator of the character, has just revealed on Twitter that the Merc with a Mouth is still getting the animation treatment and that it is very close.

"I know a Deadpool cartoon is coming. sooner than later," Liefeld tweeted. "I live in Southern California, so I know things given the proximity to Hollywood. I have no idea if it's any good or which version of Deadpool it portrays," he went on to say.

Deadpool came close to hitting the small screen with the FX animated series by Donald and Stephen Glover. Test footage from the project generated so much excitement that ultimately became disappointment after Marvel decided to pull the plug on the animated show.

Now, it looks like a Deadpool cartoon can still make it to TV. However, Liefield's tweet did have a huge disclaimer that this may not at all be like the series the Glover brothers envisioned. FX Network president John Landgraf did say in the past that Marvel might still revisit the project.

I think that Marvel will revive it because they have the rights. They own the IP and they have the rights to do an animated adult series based on any of the X-Men characters, and based on Deadpool specifically.
However, the studio might just end up hiring a new creative team instead of bringing back the Glovers, who parted ways with Marvel after the cancellation. After the Deadpool series was scrapped, Donald Glover posted a glimpse of the script that he later deleted, which was interpreted as disappointment in the decision. On that series, Deadpool also breaks the fourth wall, which is kind of what he's known for especially after the movies starring Ryan Reynolds.

Hopefully, we get more concrete plans for this new Deadpool cartoon.
