New Character Confirmed for Black Widow?

Black Widow may have already begun filming, but we still know very little about the film save for the members of the cast. Florence Pugh has been cast in the movie, and rumor has it that she's actually playing a character from the comics.

As per The Independent, Marvel insider Roger Wardell has revealed that Pugh is said to be playing Yelena Belova, the blonde Widow from the comics. If Belova is introduced, it's possible that the film will have Johansson passing the torch onto her, and we'll have a new Widow staying in the MCU—possibly starting her own trilogy of films.

Though we should only take this as a rumor, for now, Wardell was a source that leaked some accurate information about Endgame back in December from Thor gaining weight to Thanos getting killed early on in the film. With Widow already having her character arc completed, I think the possibility of someone taking over her mantle is very likely.

My guess is, the story will give us some of Widow's origin while at the same time showing us what Belova is capable of. We've yet to know how she'll be introduced in the film, but I'm hoping they give us a story with more emotional meat—unlike Captain Marvel, which I think is fine, but pretty basic when it comes to superhero films.

Catch Black Widow when it comes out sometime in 2020.
