A New Avengers movie is set for May 2022, at least according to a leaked schedule of the next slate of films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The leak picked up by Cosmic Book News, reveals that the rest of the films included in the slate are those we already expect:
May 1, 2020 - Black Widow
Nov. 6, 2020 - The Eternals
Feb. 12, 2021 - Black Panther 2
May 7, 2021 - Shang-Chi
Nov. 5, 2021 - Doctor Strange 2
Feb. 18, 2022 - Captain Marvel 2
May 6, 2022 - New Avengers
July 29, 2022 - Ant-Man 3
On the other hand, it has been teased before that the Avengers franchise as we know is over, which means we're at the dawn of a new era of heroes. The NewAvengers movie might be the way in for this fresh new group.
Based on the New Avengers title, fans have a pretty good idea on which new characters we might potentially see in the film. New Avengers, as comic book fans know, is actually the name of a group of Marvel superheroes. There were four iterations of the team. A mix of the original MCU heroes served as members including Captain America, Iron Man, and Hawkeye/Ronin, and Hulk while Doctor Strange and Spider-Man were also some of the earliest members.
Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic, who is expected to join the MCU soon along with the rest of the Fantastic Four team, happens to be one of them as well. Namor, who was teased in Avengers: Endgame was also a member of the New Avengers at some point as well as X-Men favorite Wolverine.
Looking at the slate that comes before the purported New Avengers movie, it is safe to say that the MCU is going to create its very own team. Doctor Strange and Captain Marvel will likely be included as well as Spider-Man and Black Panther.
By the time the film comes out, Shang-Chi and The Eternals would have been introduced to the universe already, so they will likely be part of the team too. This would mean that the Fantastic Four and the X-Men may not be joining the MCU anytime soon, let alone be part of an Avengers team.
The leak hails from 4Chan and with no way of knowing its legitimacy, it is best to take this with a grain of salt.
