Fan-favorite Toph Beifong is expected to join the cast with the upcoming second season, and a new photo of the main ensemble adds actress Miya Chech to Team Avatar.

It’s not yet clear when Toph is going to join the Gaang, but in the original anime, she appeared in a few more episodes. With the live-action series naturally compressing the stories, it’s very possible that Toph could be introduced earlier in the game.
Who is Toph Beifong?
Toph Beifong is a fan-favorite character from Avatar: The Last Airbender, and she was introduced in the second book, Earth, to be Aang’s Earthbending teacher. Though she is a blind little girl, she’s proven to be tough as nails, and her tomboyish persona makes her a fun foil for the very demure (and mindful) Katara.
When the Gaang actually meets her for the first time, Toph is a secret fighter in an Earthbending tournament that’s this world’s version of pro-wrestling. She called herself ‘The Blind Bandit’ and it’s still one of the greatest character introductions in the series.
Toph actually gets to develop a lot in the 20+ episodes of the original series, but with the compressed number of eps for the live-action show, fans are curious about what would make the final cut. Will she blend right in with Team Avatar? Or will there be time for her to test her chemistry with the rest of the group?
The Book 2 Arc
Book 2 is actually one of the better arcs in the show, and is considered to be where the series really got its stride as compared to Book 1. Besides Aang, Katara, and Sokka being on the lookout for an Earthbending teacher, Zuko and Iroh are also on the run from the Fire Nation and have their own journey ahead of them.
As for Azula, she’s officially dispatched to hunt down the Avatar herself, since her brother and uncle are now considered traitors.
When it comes to story, there are definitely a ton of memorable episodes in the second season. The Cave of Two Lovers may have been pushed forward to Season 1, but there are still a lot of great scenes like the gaang’s arc in the desert with the Library and the sandbenders, as well as their arc in Ba Sing Se where they take on a huge Fire Nation drill and an elite group of earthbenders known as the Dai Li.
Fingers crossed that the show finally managed to iron out their kinks with the first season.
Avatar: The Last Airbender Book 2 has no specific release date yet, but is expected to come out on Netflix sometime next year.
