We are less than a month away from the premiere of the Spriggan reboot and Netflix is making sure that fans are hyped up for the big day. A new key visual has just been dropped and it features all the big characters who are showing up in the highly anticipated remake by David Production!
The new Spriggan key visual was illustrated by character designer and chief animation director Shuhei Handa, who previously worked on Little Witch Academia. It puts Yu Ominae front and center along with the major players in the reboot of the beloved manga. Check it out below.
Back in 2019, it was announced that the anime adaptation of the manga written by Hiroshi Takashige and illustrated by Ryoji Minagawa would be produced by David Production and Netflix. Although the new show was initially set to premiere in 2021, the release date was pushed back to 2022. Luckily, we're finally getting the highly anticipated series this June.
The official synopsis for Spriggan reads as follows:
“A great civilization once existed on this Earth. Possessing knowledge and scientific prowess far exceeding that of modern man, the relics of this ancient civilization remain hidden across this world even now. As high-speed communication networks cover the globe and the peering eyes of satellites are able to expose all secrets, the armies of great nations clash as they seek to uncover and research these artifacts, which possess an unfathomable 'power.'
“A member of this ancient civilization carved a message into a plate: 'Protect our relics from evil-doers.' Taking this message to heart, one organization aims to seal away this ancient civilization for good. The elite secret agents of this organization are known as…Spriggans.”
The new series will star Chiaki Kobayashi as Yu Ominae, Yohei Azakami as Jean Jacquemonde, Kenji Hamada as Chief Yamamoto, Mariya Ise as Yoshino Somei, Ken Narita as Koichi Moroha, Ayumu Murase as Colonel McDougal and Yoshimasa Hosoya as Iwao Akatsuki.
Spriggan premieres on Netflix on June 18, 2022.
