NCIS Season 19 Episode 4 will air next week, but fans of the hit crime drama have not yet seen their favorite character Ducky (David McCallum), on-screen.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, fans of NCIS have seen less and less of Ducky. And most of the character's appearances took place virtually.

So, one can't help but wonder if McCallum will return to the series and will he finally appear in NCIS Season 19 Episode 4?

Will Ducky Appear In NCIS Season 19 Episode 4?

Unfortunately, fans of Ducky have to wait a bit longer because the character won't be making an appearance in NCIS Season 19 Episode 4.

But two weeks ago, McCallum hinted at his upcoming return after fans commented on a photo of him and Brian Dietzen on Twitter.

Fans asked McCallum when they will see Ducky in NCIS Season 19, and he said "soon."

David McCallum Exit Rumors Surfaced In 2019

Even before the global pandemic, rumors suggested that McCallum would be leaving the NCIS franchise.

Two years ago, Ducky told Gibbs (Mark Harmon) that he doesn't think there's a place for him at the Naval Criminal Investigative Service anymore.

But Gibbs refused to let Ducky go. Instead, Gibbs and his colleagues led Ducky to a room with his name on the wall. The NCIS team decided to hire Ducky as their newest historian.

Ducky's new job meant he would continue to work with the NCIS team but in a limited capacity. He can report to the office or do his work from home, and he will still get paid a part-time fee.

This storyline shows how the writers and creators of NCIS took McCallum's age into consideration even before COVID-19 hit the entire world.

Since McCallum is already 88 years old, it must have been difficult for him to be on set almost every day to film his scenes.

Will Ducky Be Killed Off In NCIS Season 19?

McCallum's character has been part of the NCIS franchise for almost two decades.

Earlier this year, more rumors swirled about the fate of McCallum's character, Ducky.

At the time, Wilmer Valderrama posted a photo of himself with his co-stars wearing an all-black ensemble. And fans immediately suspected that someone would be killed off, and the rest of the cast would be attending their funeral.

However, Ducky wasn't killed off in NCIS Season 18. But does this mean that he will eventually be killed off in NCIS Season 19?

Too many speculations surround Ducky because of McCallum's age. But the decision will ultimately depend on the actor and the creators of the hit NBC series.

If McCallum is willing and able to give life to his character – in a limited capacity – it's unlikely for him to be killed off from the series.

David McCallum Gushes Over Ducky

Fans have fallen in love with Ducky, but McCallum has also developed a close bond with the fictional character.

During a previous interview, McCallum admitted that he has become wrapped up in character after so many years of playing Ducky.

"Ducky is fabulous because there's Ducky and David and they're so wrapped up together. And Ducky is a pathologist and does all these wonderful things. In television, obviously, we're not doing anything like that. We're doing the first 5 percent of the autopsy, which is the physical stuff. What happens to the human body when it's dead? What causes it to die? It's much deeper than what we do, and I haven't stopped trying to find out," he told CBS.

What Is The Plot For NCIS Season 19 Episode 4?

Even though McCallum's Ducky won't appear in NCIS Season 19, Episode 4, there's still plenty of gut-wrenching storylines from next week's installment.

According to the official synopsis for Great Wide Open, Gibbs and McGee (Sean Murray) will head to Alaska. The rest of the team will work to uncover the conspiracy behind the serial killer.

Speaking of the serial killer, rumors suggest that NCIS Season 19 Episode 4 will be the last time the team will tackle the mysteries surrounding the serial killer.

And once this matter is solved, Gibbs will have more flexibility when it comes to his job.

There are rumors that Gibbs won't be featured in all the episodes of NCIS Season 19. And if this is true, Harmon's character might not immediately reunite with Ducky in the upcoming installments.

It's also important to note that Gibbs is not an official member of the NCIS team anymore. He was fired from his job last season, and he deserves to have a break from the cases he has handled thus far.
