Morbius Nabs Two Razzie Awards

Last March 10, the Golden Raspberry Awards (or the Razzies) announced the winners for this year's 43rd annual ceremony where they "honor" the worst films of 2022. The divisive Netflix film Blonde, which led the pack with eight nominations, ended up winning Worst Prize, the top prize.

The Sony Marvel film Morbius managed to pick up two acting prizes as it "won" Worst Actor for Jared Leto and Worst Supporting Actress for Adria Arjona. It was also nominated for Worst Picture, Worst Director, and Worst Screenplay, which were all won by either Blonde or Good Mourning.

The film's Razzie wins come as it was panned by the critics when it was released last year and it became the worst-reviewed Sony's Spider-Verse film yet with criticisms towards its writing and the post-credits scene that baffled a lot of fans. It was also subjected to several memes online.

It was also Leto's second Razzie win as he won the Worst Supporting Actor award last year for his divisive performance in House of Gucci. He was also nominated for his performance as the Joker in Suicide Squad. This all comes as he won an Oscar almost 10 years ago for Dallas Buyers Club.

However, the Razzies also took the opportunity of poking fun at themselves as they won Worst Actress for their nominations blunder as a result of the controversy that garnered when 13-year-old actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong received a nomination for Firestarter before it was rescinded as a result of the backlash.

It has always been debatable whether the Razzie Awards really have a "value" or it's just a fun award that we won't be taking seriously since it is an opportunity to recognize the worst films contrary to the Oscars where they have been honoring the best in its 95-year history.

So far, Sony has not announced a sequel to Morbius and it is also unknown whether Leto will reprise the role in the other upcoming Spider-Verse films in the future. However, given the reception, the former looks to be unlikely.
