Morbius Actress Teases Exciting Future in Sony's Spider-Man Universe

After several production delays and discouraging reviews even before the theatrical release, Morbius is finally showing in theaters worldwide. Fortunately, Morbius was able to defy all the negativity surrounding the Spider-Man spinoff, grossing $39 Million at the box office on its opening weekend. While Sony predicted $50 Million on its opening, the $39 Million wasn't bad at all, considering how critics have labeled Morbius "as bad as you were expecting" in its pre-screenings.

While the negative feedback from the critics puts Jared Leto and Daniel Espinosa in a hard spot, luckily, the viewers saved the film from flopping entirely at the box office.

Now that the living vampire's debut is officially a blockbuster, will there be a sequel?

[SPOILER ALERT]

While we don't have anything yet from Morbius lead star Jared Leto, Adria Arjona on the other hand commented on her character's future, as Dr. Martine Bancroft.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Morbius star Adria Arjona teases Dr. Martine Bancroft's future, especially after Bancroft's 'turning' at the end of the film. Arjona explained, "And then I got the script, and when I got to that moment. I was so excited because it changes everything for her. It adds a bunch of question marks to her future, so I’m excited to see where Martine will go. Now that she has turned, I want to know if she goes more towards good or bad. Or does she have trouble finding the middle ground? What happens to her? I’m just curious. I’m as curious as the fans will be."

Arjona recalls reading in the comics that her character eventually turns into a vampire just like Morbius, which certainly added to her excitement over the character. The actress continued, "Yes, I did. I mean, I read the comics, so I imagined there would be something. They wouldn’t send me the script at the beginning, but I did my research. I was like, 'Oh, she turns. Martine Bancroft turns.' And I just remember calling my agent to be like, 'Oh my god, I think she might turn in this one or in the second one,' which is even more exciting."

Well, it's clear that Adria Arjona wants a sequel to happen and now that Morbius' box office receipts are doing good, the possibility of more Michael Morbius and Dr. Martine Bancroft's appearance looks very reassuring. The film also hints that Sony has more plans for the Morbius franchise, with Michael Keaton's Vulture post-credits crossover and Dr. Bancroft's turning, there are certainly more stories to unravel.

Adria Arjona's exhilaration for her role is undoubtedly one of the reasons why the franchise should continue. After going through multiple delays due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, multiple reshoots, and the disheartening reviews the film encountered, Arjona's enthusiasm certainly adds encouragement to the film.

Morbius is now showing in theaters worldwide.
