Fans of Mission: Impossible 7 won't be thrilled to know that the Tom Cruise-led movie has once again been delayed.

Initially, Mission: Impossible 7 was set to premiere in May 2022. However, due to the increasing COVID-19 cases in the United States, Paramount decided to delay its release to September.

This isn't the first time that the movie's release was pushed back due to the rising cases of COVID-19.

Mission: Impossible 7 was first announced in 2019. Back then, Cruise revealed that the seventh installment in the highly-anticipated franchise is slated for release in July this year.

But because of the ongoing pandemic, Cruise and his co-stars had to wait months before they were able to start filming.

And when they finally did, the production for Mission: Impossible 7 was halted for two weeks in June after some crew members tested positive for COVID-19.

Last year, Cruise also revealed that Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission: Impossible 8 are going to be filmed back-to-back. But with the delays, the actor confirmed that this will no longer be the case.

Who will return in Mission: Impossible 7?

There are rumors that the upcoming installment will be deeply ingrained in the previous Mission: Impossible films. After all, some fan-favorites from previous installments will be returning.

Vanessa Kirby will reprise her role as Alanna Mitsopolis and Henry Czerny will also return as Agent Eugene Kittridge.

The last time that both characters were featured in the franchise was during the first Mission: Impossible film.

Director and writer Christopher McQuarrie also teased that there will be at least five new characters in the upcoming installment.

What other movies are being delayed by COVID-19?

Other than Mission: Impossible 7, a slew of other movies are also being delayed because of COVID-19.

Top Gun: Maverick was initially set for a November release, but due to the rising COVID-19 cases, it has been pushed back to May 2022.

Cruise also stars in the movie as the rebel fighter pilot, Pete Maverick.

According to the New York Times, theater owners were relying on Top Gun: Maverick to help salvage the movie industry after its long break amid the pandemic.

Unfortunately, they need to wait once again until things normalize in the entertainment industry.

The publication also said that other studios may follow in the footsteps of Paramount. However, they have yet to make an official announcement.

If this will be the case, Marvel-Disney's The Eternals, Sony's Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife may also be delayed.

Additionally, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's No Time To Die, Disney's West Side Story, and Sony's Spider-Man: No Way Home is also at risk of being pushed back.
