The Fall 2021 anime season has begun, and many different shows have started airing. One of the must check-out series for the season is Mieruko-chan, a horror-comedy series written by Tomoki Izumi.
Mieruko-chan's story revolves around Miko Yotsuya, a girl who develops the ability to see scary and grotesque creatures. Her way of dealing with this is by pretending that she doesn't see these creatures at all, despite getting really scared over it. The manga began serialization in 2018 under Kadokawa Shoten. The anime adaptation is by the studio Passione.
Mieruko-chan Episode 1 Recap
All is well at the beginning for Miko Yotsuya. Life is seemingly ordinary — it was just another day at school with her best friend, Hana. After the two of them go their separate ways to head home, Miko realizes that her bag charm is missing. Thinking that it must have fallen off somewhere in the school, she comes back to her classroom to pick it up. Rain starts to fall. While she's at the bus stop, she checks her phone and sees a notification from Hana. The phone glitches and takes a selfie of her multiple times before it transforms into a ghost-like photo of her. When she looks up, a hideous creature is staring back at her, asking if she can see them.
Despite feeling immense fear, she pretends that she doesn't see the creature at all. Eventually, it walked off and disappeared. Once she gets home, she starts seeing more creatures. One showed up in the bathroom while she was brushing her teeth. Another one showed up under the covers before she was about to sleep.
As much as Miko tries to dismiss it, things become worse at school the following day. While talking to Hana, she realizes that she does, indeed, see these mysterious, grotesque creatures.

Episode 2 of Mieruko-chan will be out in Japan at 10 PM Japan Standard Time (JST). Funimation is simulcasting the series. They will release the episode at the following times in these locations:

British Time: 3 PM BST
