Michael B. Jordan on Whether He’s Replacing Henry Cavill as Man of Steel

It looks like Black Panther star Michael Jordan has decided to address the persistent rumors that he's going to replace DC Extended Universe star Henry Cavill as the franchise's Man of Steel.

Jordan has recently been busy promoting his new movie, Just Mercy, and while he was on the press rounds the actor decided to discuss with MTV News about his upcoming projects. The entertainment news outlet wanted to get Jordan's thoughts on the rumors that he'd be playing Superman for DC.

Last month, Variety posted an article discussing the current slate of the DCEU, and in its piece, the publication revealed that Warner Brothers had actually met with J.J. Abrams and with Jordan to plan out what to do with the Superman role. While the article excited fans, the report reminded readers that it was unlikely that Jordan would commit to the role because of his busy schedule.

Sitting down with MTV, Jordan has decided to address these rumors.

"I've been rumored to play Morpheus to Superman to Power Rangers and everything in between, so it's like, I'm kinda used to the rumors I'm playing something. But, anything that I do dive into has to be done the right way. It has to be full of authenticity," the Black Panther star explained, "I'm a fan of comic books, you know? I understand you know, the fans being upset at, ‘Oh no, why are they doing this and why are they changing that?' I would feel the same way about certain things. So just know, if I ever were to dabble in anything, it would be authentic and something that I feel like people would really support."

While fans might not be used to seeing a Black Superman, Calvin Ellis did exist in DC comics. For those who aren't familiar with the character, he is a Black Superman from a different version of Earth in the multiverse. In this multiverse, not only is Kelvin Ellis secretly Kal-El, but he's also the President of the United States and he operates from the White House where Brainiac serves as his personal computer.

It isn't impossible to have a Black Superman on the big screen. However, fans feel like Henry Cavill's time as the Man of Steel isn't over, and many are hoping the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star returns for another Superman movie soon.

Justice League is now available on DVD, Blu-Ray, and Digital HD.
