Meghan Markle shared her genealogy in the recent episode of her podcast, Archetypes. Many felt that she identified herself as Black while discussing the "angry Black woman" stereotype.

Meghan Markle Shares Her Genealogy In Archetypes Podcast

In the most recent episode of Markle's podcast, she discussed the "angry Black woman" stereotype with Issa Rae and Ziew. During the chat, she told Nigerian-American comedian Ziwe Fumudoh that she's also Nigerian.

"I just had my genealogy done a couple of years ago. I am 43-percent Nigerian," Markle said in the podcast, Sky News reported.

"No way! Oh my gosh! Are you really serious?" Ziwe replied.

Prince Harry's wife added that she doesn't know what tribe her ancestors came from but plans to "dig deeper into all of this."

"Anyone that I have told, especially Nigerian women are just like, 'What?'" she said.

Ziwe told the duchess that "you do look like a Nigerian," before adding, "You look like my aunt Uzo. So this is great!"

Did Meghan Markle Identify Herself As A Black Woman?

In the podcast, Markle said that there were times when she was afraid to speak her mind because she feared the people around her would brand her as an "angry Black woman." She even asked her guest Issa Rae if she felt she was "allowed to be angry." The Insecure actress said, "absolutely not," according to Page Six.

Due to Markle's discussion about being afraid to be stereotyped as an "angry Black woman," she raised eyebrows because, for them, she is not Black.

"The only thing Black about Meghan Markle is her Mother and her Soul. Everything else is just lies, race-baiting, More lies and manipulation. She will never represent black women. She doesn't have what it takes. She is a role model for self-serving golddiggers," one critic tweeted.  #MeghanMarkIeisaLiar"

"If Meghan thinks she is black then she should change her registration. For now, she is registered in America as White and that is what She Chose to identify as on government paperwork. I am waiting for her to change that..." one wrote on Twitter.

In an essay published in Elle magazine in 2015, the 41-year-old celebrity touched on the subject. However, she didn't identify herself as a Black or White woman when asked, "what are you?"

"My dad is Caucasian and my mom is African American. I'm half Black and half white," she would answer, Sky News reported.

The Duchess of Sussex added that she wanted to be "ethnically ambiguous" and living in a "grey area."
