Meghan Markle’s royal life hasn’t always been easy. In fact, ever since she dated Prince Harry, Markle had no other choice but to deal with the constant criticisms from royal fans.

At one point, the negative press coverage that she and Prince Harry have been getting already took a toll on them that’s why they decided to relocate to the United States.

However, Meghan Markle’s royal life would’ve been different if Princess Margaret was still around. After all, royal author Tom Quinn said that Queen Elizabeth’s younger sister would’ve loved Markle.

Meghan Markle, Princess Margaret Similarities

During a recent episode of To Di For Daily, Quinn also claimed that Markle and Princess Margaret were very similar to each other.

“She would have [loved Meghan]. They were both from the same mold completely. And, in fact, I think Margaret would have thought that she had helped move the royal family forward to a position where they were prepared to allow Meghan to marry into the family. Because, you know, as you know, as the world knows, Margaret wasn’t allowed to marry someone because he was divorced. And the British public, to the amazement of the establishment, all sided with Margaret and said, ‘You know, not allowing her to marry someone just because he’s divorced is ridiculous, it’s medieval.’ And so, she got so much sympathy for that. I think the Royal Family, in future, began to think, ‘Okay, we’ve got to at least modernize a bit,’” Quinn said.

However, Markle isn’t the only member of the royal family that has been likened to Princess Margaret.

Prince Harry, Princess Margaret Similarity

While speaking with OK! magazine, royal expert Ingrid Seward also claimed that Prince Harry shares similarities with the late royal.

“Perhaps Harry has something of his rebel great aunt about him because he walked away. The Princess was so gregarious and willful and nearly gave up her rights of succession to be with Peter Townsend. In the end, she decided she preferred royal life. But I wonder if she regretted walking away from the love of her life,” Seward said.

The royal expert added that Princess Margaret would’ve understood Prince Harry’s struggles because they were both siblings of an heir and were dubbed as “spares.”

“Being a spare is the most difficult position. Margaret would’ve supported Harry because royal life is relentless even in their roles,” Seward said.

Last year, Princess Margaret and Prince Harry were also linked to one another because of their very similar paths.

In the book Elizabeth & Margaret: The Intimate World of the Windsor Sisters, royal biographer Andrew Morton said that Princess Margaret was forced to make a tough decision between her royal duties and her personal relationships.

Since she didn’t get the consent that she needed to wed Peter Townsend, she was forced to end her relationship with him.

Prince Harry, on the other hand, was able to wed his divorcee wife, Markle. But they eventually decided to flee the United Kingdom.

“The wheel turns, 70 years later, and we have another couple having to make a decision: Do they put duty first or their own ambitions and desires first? And they put their own ambitions and desires first. That is the change we have witnessed during the Queen's reign,” Morton said.

Prince Harry, Prince William’s Bond Similar To Queen Elizabeth, Princess Margaret

Morton also said that Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret’s relationship is similar to Prince William and Prince Harry’s bond.

“In both cases, you have one sibling who pushes boundaries, while the other is more serious, more cautious. At one point, William and Harry were both parts of the main branch of the monarchy. Then William marries and has children, and his children take precedence. Whereas Harry is an ancillary branch in exactly the same way as Margaret,” Morton told People.
