Considering that Tina Fey's 2024 reimagining of the Mean Girls movie is a musical, the iconic Jingle Bell Rock performance of the Plastics can't be missed! That said, did you know that the new choreography was inspired by the K-pop group, BLACKPINK?
Mean Girls Choreographer was Inspired By BLACKPINK
Yup, you heard that right. The 2024 Mean Girls movie is a musical, starring The Sex Lives of College Girls star Reneé Rapp as the Queen Bee Regina George of high school along with her Plastic followers, Bebe Wood as Gretchen and Avantika Vandanapu as Karen.
This time, we'll be watching Spider-Man: Far From Home's Angourie Rice as Cady Heron who navigates her high school life with the Plastics, and this means we'll also get to see a new iteration of the classic Jingle Bell Rock dance.
The 2024 flick's choreographer Kyle Hanagami, who has previously worked with big-time artists such as Jennifer Lopez, Justin Beiber, Britney Spears, and BLACKPINK, has just teased what's different about the musical's dance steps.
Recently speaking with MTV in promotion of Mean Girls' premiere, Hanagami revealed that the Christmas dance the Plastics performed at the Talent Show was inspired by the KPOP group, BLACKPINK.
"I feel like this is the generation that grew up watching BLACKPINK, so I was like, 'Let's put a little bit of inspiration in there.'" Hanagami said.
The choreographer had even shared the Christmas dance steps ahead of Mean Girls' premiere, which you can check out below.
