Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe put out some of the most divisive Marvel content in recent memory and one project fans can't stop discussing is Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder. When the director first stepped in to helm 2017's Thor: Ragnarok, there's no denying that he helped reinvigorate the character after two failed standalone attempts at making him a formidable hero.

Ragnarok gave the God of Thunder the right balance of seriousness and camp which instantly clicked with fans. However, Taika seemingly dialed everything up to eleven when he directed Love and Thunder. While some fans thought the film was serviceable, others thought it was overshadowed by too much comedy.

Lead star Chris Hemsworth seems to agree with the sentiment of many and during an appearance on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Australian star expressed his desire to step away from the tone Taika set for the Thor franchise and said that he wants Thor to undergo some reinvention.

Following Hemsworth's telling interview, fans quickly stormed Twitter to put the blame on Waititi for Chris' apparent dismay over Thor's creative direction. Check out some of the reactions below:

As frustrating as it is for some, I still believe Taika has done a tremendous job with the character all things considered. I do agree with Hemsworth though that it's time to take a different approach with Thor without having to set aside the wit and goofiness that is innate to the character. I'm pretty sure Taika learned his lesson and Thor 5 will serve as his redemption arc.

Thor: Love and Thunder is available to stream exclusively on Disney+.
