Arkham Asylum has been a major site for some of the Dark Knight's most remembered renditions. From Batman Forever to Christopher Nolan's legendary The Dark Knight Trilogy, the infamous house for the criminally insane has been a vital element of Batman lore for decades now. And with the latest rendition of his tale coming up courtesy of director Matt Reeves, fans have the rumor mill has been buzzing about the latest film being set in Arkham.
A report from Variety, however, has confirmed that although initial talks involved the entire film is set and unfolding within the Asylum itself, the film is expected to only have a few scenes in Arkham. This may be due to the expected cast of arch-rivals Robert Pattinson's Dark Knight is expected to face. Some of these announced villains include Paul Dano as The Riddler, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, and Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, respectively.
The same report also highlights that should this film turn out to be a success, it may lead separate spinoffs for each villain it is set to feature, similar to that of this year's acclaimed Joker. That said, several cast members both in The Batman and next year's Birds of Prey are contracted to appear in several sequels and standalone films already, so we may expect to see more of these characters no matter the circumstances.
The Batman will hit theaters in June 2021. In the meantime, some of the DCEU's upcoming films include Birds of Prey to be released on February 7, 2020, Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5, 2020, and The Suicide Squad on August 6, 2021.
