Matt Damon Reveals Being Forced to Turn Down Harvey Dent Role in The Dark Knight

There is little doubt that The Dark Knight is best known for the late Heath Ledger's stunning performance as the Joker. However, the Batman movie also gave us Aaron Eckhart's riveting take on Harvey Dent.

There is little doubt that Eckhart did an amazing job at bringing Two-Face to life. However, Matt Damon has just revealed that he almost played the character in the Christopher Nolan film before he was forced to turn down the role.

Damon was recently a guest on the Happy Sad Confusedpodcast to promote his new film Stillwater. However, he also revealed that he had to pass up on the chance to play one of Batman's most well-known adversaries in The Dark Knight.

"Well, Dark Knight was a small role that I was offered," Damon joked. He then revealed that he had to turn it down because he had another major project to work on.

"There was some other big movie, some big part that I was doing where I was like, ‘Well, I can't play Harvey Dent... But you gotta be sanguine about it and go, ‘It all works out,'" Damon said.

The Dark Knight was released in 2008 but had actually started filming in 2006. With that in mind, there's a chance that Damon was already attached to return in Ocean's Thirteen or The Bourne Ultimatum.

The idea of Damon playing Two-Face is interesting on its own but the Deadpool 2 star confirmed it wasn't the only comic book role he almost played. He shared how he had been one of the final three actors considered for the role of the Boy Wonder in Joel Schumacher's Batman and Robin. However, the studio ultimately chose to go with Chris O'Donnell despite Damon offering to play the part for "a quarter" of O'Donnell's price.

He may have passed on The Dark Knight but Damon is now playing another important role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is set to return as Actor Loki in Thor: Love and Thunder, which is scheduled for release on May 6, 2022.
