Marvel's Elizabeth Olsen Reportedly Joining House of the Dragon Season 2

House Targaryen is currently dominating HBO Max, with House of the Dragon premiere and second episode earning an impressive 10 million views. Following the first and second episode's record-breaking feat, it was already a no-brainer for Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin and HBO to renew the series for a second season. More amazingly, it seems the cast will expand with the production eyeing Marvel veteran Elizabeth Olsen to join House of the Dragon Season 2.

According to a report from Giant Freakin Robot, Elizabeth Olsen is in talks for a role in the newly-renewed House of the Dragon Season 2. Although the report did not fully specify which role the Scarlet Witch is playing, the insider hopes that she lands a witch role:

"We are not entirely sure who Olsen will be portraying in the series, but let’s say that we hope she is a witch of some sort. Yes, that is the obvious choice given her MCU portrayal of Wanda Maximoff, but she does play that part quite well."

To be fair, Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff is currently on the shelf inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe after we witnessed her unfortunate fate at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, sacrificing herself to prevent anyone to lay hands on the Darkhold. Even screenwriter Michael Waldron admitted to Empire that Olsen is currently off the board, "She’s removing herself from the board… For now? Forever? We’ll see. I’d like to see her again…"

If Olsen was indeed asked to join House of the Dragon Season 2, it's safe to assume that there won't be any commitment issues from Marvel or any other studios, and the actress might actually accept the role.

Now, the big question is, whom will she be playing in House of the Dragon? Olsen would hardly pass as a Targaryen as long as she dye her hair. But no one would argue that Olsen is fitting for the role of Game of Thrones' sketchiest character, Melisandre. The Marvel veteran could play a younger version of Melisandre, divulging her mysterious origins and how she developed her mystical powers.

With Olsen playing the Scarlet Witch in the MCU and Melisandre being the Red Witch in the Game of Thrones lore, we don't really need to connect the dots here.

House of the Dragon is available to stream on HBO Max.
