Marvel Writer Dan Slott Addresses Backlash Against His Criticisms About Joker

Joker might be receiving a lot of great reviews from fans and from critics, but not everyone's pleased with the gritty character study. Marvel comic book writer Dan Slott was one of those who didn't really enjoy Joker, taking to Twitter to explain why he didn't like Todd Phillip's comic book movie.

Surprisingly it seems like the comic book writer known for comics like The Mighty Avengers, The Superior Spider-Man, The Amazing Spider-Man, She-Hulk, and Silver Surfer got flak for sharing his thoughts on Joker. Now, Slott's decided to respond to the backlash.

Taking to Twitter, Slott decided to post his response to all of Joker's angry fans on Twitter, asking his followers whether or not people really understood how opinions worked. The comic book writer then proceeded to further explain why he didn't enjoy the movie in a rational manner.

According to Slott, watching a dark movie about an anti-hero can captivate audiences, however, dark backstories have to be earned.

"You can't shorthand it by imitating other/better films," the writer explained, citing Taxi Driver, King of Comedy, Falling Down, and Fight Club as examples of "better films."

"If not paced well, if the character goes too far, too quickly, why should we continue to be invested in them?" Slott continued.

Everyone has different tastes, so it shouldn't really come as a surprise that not everyone likes Joker. Slott shouldn't be harassed just because he didn't enjoy Joker just like everyone else. We should learn how to respect opinions that differ from our own.

Joker is currently screening in cinemas.
