Marvel Executive Says The World is Ready for a Gay MCU Hero

Marvel Studios has been upping their diversity game lately, thanks to Black Panther and Captain Marvel. Though considered controversial by those who are petty, these two movies show that Marvel is willing to embrace a different side that should allow for more complex stories. That doesn't mean we won't be getting great stories with white characters - Spider-Man: Far From Home and a Doctor Strange sequel are coming - but it is nice to get more varied characters.

It looks like Marvel executive Victoria Alonso agrees since she was asked by Variety about recent reports regarding a gay lead for The Eternals. Alonso simply stated that they would cast the best version of these characters but when a follow-up question asked if the world was ready for a gay MCU hero, she said yes.

Actually, she simply said that "the world is ready." She isn't wrong about that either.

Before you get all uppity about political agendas, keep in mind that there are very few superhero movies that have an LGBTQ lead so this would legitimately be fresh. It will be interesting to see which character ends up representing the community, though it wouldn't be surprising to know if two LGBTQ heroes are introduced in a Young Avengers movie.

Marvel could also make Iceman a live-action gay superhero since Disney is planning to completely buy Fox soon and an MCU X-Men movie is pretty likely. That would be a great move on their part.

Avengers: Endgame comes out on April 26.
