Marvel Exec Addresses Eternals Negative Reviews: "The Fans Will Decide"

The critical reviews for Eternals have been mixed. It became the first-ever MCU film to receive a rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes. For long-time fans of the franchise, it is strange to hear that an MCU film is getting responses like this from critics and perhaps it is the result of the movie's ambitious feat and its subversive storytelling that is very different from the other MCU entries. Now, one of the main bosses at Marvel Studios has spoken out about the film's divisive critical reviews.

Per Variety, while accepting the Visionary Award at the recent Outfest Legacy Awards, Marvel Studios' president of physical and postproduction, visual effects, and animation production Victoria Alonso addressed the negative reviews that Eternals received from the critics during her speech. She said, "We have tried to stir it up and sometimes the critics are not with us. That’s okay. That's okay. We thank you for being a critic. We thank you for writing about us. And the fans will decide."

She continued, "Diversity and inclusion is not a political game for us. It is 100 percent a responsibility because you don’t get to have the global success that we have given the Walt Disney Company without the support of people around the world of every kind of human there is."

As Alonso stated, in the end, what matters is that the fans will like the film. Fortunately, if you look at the audience score, it seems that most of the fans responded positively to the film. As of the time of the writing of this article, it has a very solid audience score of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes. The box office results have also been impressive and it shows that a lot of people are flocking to the cinemas to see MCU's new set of superheroes.

Based on the numbers and analytics, the fans did decide and they said that they like the film. That's what really matters to Marvel in the end and we can safely say that they delivered yet again another satisfying film to the audience. It wouldn't be surprising if they'll move forward with a sequel given the impressive results so far.
