Marvel Director Confirms Spider-Man and Morbius Exist in One Cinematic Universe

While fans are waiting for Spider-Man: No Way Home's digital release, Sony is currently prepping up another anti-hero addition to the expanding Spiderverse. Jared Leto will star as Michael Morbius, in the upcoming MCU villain origin story, Morbius.

After multiple delays for Morbius due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and production issues, the film is finally set for April 2022. While there are lots of rumors about the upcoming film, some fans wonder if Morbius exists in the current Holland's Spider-Man universe.

Fans have gone wild when they saw former Spider-Man villain, Michael Keaton's Vulture in the Morbius trailer. With a Spider-Man villain appearance in another anti-hero origin story, will there be a Spider-Man and Morbius crossover in the future?

In an interview with CinemaBlend, Morbius director Daniel Espinosa finally answered whether Spider-Man exists in the same universe as Morbius.

When asked if Morbius and Peter Parker are co-existing in one universe, the director responded, "Of course! I mean, in almost all Spider-Verse or, you know, the (universes) that existed in the Marvel universe, if you read the comic books, the whole idea of that kind of – the Marvel string theory, if you would call it that. It's very related to, if you remember, the alternative Seinfelds. You have a world where you have the same characters, and it's ALL of the characters, but they are slightly different. So in almost all verses, you have Spider-Man, or a Fantastic Four, or a Tony Stark, or a Morbius. But they will be different in tone."

Espino clarifies and explained how the MCU is approaching the Spiderverse, introducing a 'spider totem' in all these universes, where there has to be at least one spiderman or spider woman:

"That's not quite the way that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (is) approaching the idea, but they're remaining to some core truth. Then you have the second kind of legend, which is about the totem. Which is that, in all universes, there is a spider totem. Which means that in all universes, there has to be a Spider-Man. Or a Spider-Woman."

Well, director Daniel Espinosa seems to confirm that Morbius exists in a Spider-Man universe. Though the only question that we have right now, is which Spider-Man?

Fans have seen a very quick glimpse of Spider-Man in one of Morbius trailers, as Jared Leto's anti-hero is seen walking past a poster that looked like Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man on it. So, if Espinosa already confirmed Spider-Man's existence in Morbius' universe, then maybe it has to be Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man.

Now, we all know that the Spiderverse is currently expanding especially after the multiverse concept comes to play. While Marvel can bring back past villains and characters, the Spiderverse can also introduce new ones such as Leto's Morbius.

Morbius will hit the big screens on April 1.
