Marvel Announces New Leia-Centric Star Wars Comic That Ties In to The Rise of Skywalker

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is coming out later this year and fans are pretty pumped to see the finale of this trilogy, despite the mixed reception of The Last Jedi. There's obviously a lot of time to fill before the movie comes out so LucasFilm, Disney, and Marvel are preparing to overflow fans with some tie-in material that (hopefully) adds to the film's lore.

Marvel (via Newsarama) announced their tie-in comic would be a four-issue-mini-series called Journey to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – Allegiances, or Star Wars: Allegiances for short. The series will focus on General Leia Organa and the remaining members of The Resistance in what has been described as a "dire situation." Apparently, the stakes are so high that they are going to the Mon Calamari for help.

That alien species means a lot to fans since beloved Star Wars character and funny meme Admiral Akbar was a part of that before his anti-climactic death in The Last Jedi. It's too soon to say if anyone from the species will play a big part or if Akbar's death will be acknowledged in The Rise of Skywalker but we'll wait and see.

Journey to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – Allegiances will be coming out on October 9.
