  • Quick Answer: Lex Luthor wears his classic mechanical Warsuit in Man of Tomorrow, leveling the playing field against Superman using advanced engineering and Kryptonite-powered weaponry.

James Gunn has given fans a first look at Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor on the set of the Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow.

However, instead of the business suit he wore throughout the hit 2025 film, Lex is now donning his iconic Warsuit armor.

Comic book readers likely already know what the Warsuit is capable of. But for moviegoers, this may be the first time they'll see it in action. So the big question is: can it rival Superman’s (David Corenswet) immense power?

What is Lex Luthor’s Warsuit Made Of?

In a post on his social media accounts, James Gunn shared a photo of Lex Luthor in his Warsuit, captioning it, "Live from the set of Man of Tomorrow."

In the image, Lex stands in a barren, sandy environment while wearing his massive, comic-accurate green-and-purple Warsuit.

The armor looks every bit as bulky and mechanical as it does in the comics, complete with thick shoulder plates, a reinforced chest piece, heavy gauntlets, and oversized boots that make the villain appear significantly larger and more imposing. It also features a transparent dome helmet that protects his head.

In DC Comics, Lex built the suit himself. The most popular version of its origin story states that he repurposed Kryptonian armor and enhanced it with his own state-of-the-art technology to create the Warsuit.

Combining advanced human engineering with alien technology, the Warsuit transforms Lex into an even more formidable threat.

Among its capabilities are Kryptonite-powered weaponry, superhuman strength, enhanced durability, rocket-powered flight, and sophisticated energy-manipulation systems. The suit can generate powerful force fields for protection and unleash devastating energy blasts, heat attacks, and laser-like weapons.

With an arsenal like that, can Lex's Warsuit match or even surpass Superman's powers?

While Lex Luthor rarely gets the better of Superman in a straight fight, he has managed to score a few victories thanks to his Warsuit and its Kryptonite-based weaponry.

When Kryptonite is active, Lex gains a significant advantage on the battlefield. The radioactive mineral weakens Kal-El while allowing Lex to press his attack, effectively leveling the playing field and giving him a realistic chance of defeating his archenemy.

Certain versions of the Warsuit have also been enhanced with advanced alien technology, including equipment derived from Darkseid's world of Apokolips. These upgrades further increase the suit's capabilities and allow it to counter some of Superman's powers more effectively.

But despite these advantages, Lex often struggles to maintain the suit's peak performance long enough to secure a decisive victory. Superman and his allies frequently find ways to neutralize the Kryptonite's effects or remove it from the equation altogether.

Once Superman regains his strength, the tide of battle usually shifts dramatically. At that point, Lex's advantage quickly disappears, and the conflict often ends the same way it has so many times before–with Clark Kent coming out victorious.

Man of Tomorrow is set to hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
