Mamoru Hosoda's Anime Movie BELLE: Where to Watch It This November


The long wait is over. Finally, those curious and looking forward to Mamoru Hosoda’s latest anime film hit BELLE (The Dragon and the Freckled Princess), it will be screening for the first time in the United States at an upcoming convention.

In a report from Anime News Network, GKIDS recently announced that they would be screening BELLE at Anime NYC, held at the Javits Center in New York, from November 19 to 21, 2021. The official US premiere of the film is slated for January 14, 2022. This means those who get to attend the convention will be able to watch the movie ahead of its official premiere in the US.

This is officially Mamoru Hosoda’s highest-grossing film yet that earned about USD 56.44 million since its premiere in Japan on July 16. Hosoda’s previous works were Summer Wars, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Mirai, and The Boy and The Beast)

The film was first screened in France during the Cannes Film Festival on July 15. It received a standing ovation from the audience, and the film won the Special Jury Prize.

Aside from BELLE, GKIDS will also be screening Pompo: The Cinéphile in Anime NYC. The film is based on the manga of the same name created by Shogo Sugitani. GKIDS will officially screen the movie in North American theaters in 2022 with English subtitles and English Dub.

Convention Protocol Reminders

Due to COVID-19, the organizers of Anime NYC are strictly implementing a no mask-no vaccine no entry policy. Attendees must show proof of vaccination (at least one dose) before they enter the convention. Safety protocols will be heavily implemented all throughout the convention, and staff are closely monitoring the venue to check if people have put their masks on. Cosplayers are required to wear a mask during the convention.
