Marvel fans might expect Maisie Williams to have a whole lot of confidence after playing Arya Stark in HBO's fantasy epic Game of Thrones, however, it seems like the British actress had some anxiety playing the role of Wolfsbane in the upcoming X-Men spinoff movie, The New Mutants.
Speaking in an interview with Digital Spy, Williams decided to open up about her concerns when she was cast in The New Mutants, saying that she was worried that fans wouldn't want her as Wolfsbane, a Scottish mutant with the ability to transform into a wolf.
"[My casting] first got leaked a really long time ago when it was really early days," Williams shared. "Fox hadn't even OK-ed me or anything, it was just talks I'd been in. I took summer off last year [2016] and I didn't go online at all, really, or read anything. It came out then so I didn't look at any of it."
Wolfsbane is a pretty popular character in X-Men comics. To the uninitiated, the mutant was part of X-Men's original junior team. She later on joined X-Factor and then took up association with the British superhero team Excalibur.
Williams had a whole lot of pressure taking on the role. The actress didn't really believe that people would want her as Wolfsbane, though she really is grateful that she's taking on such a big role after her time in Game of Thrones.
The New Mutants is a movie that X-Men fans have long been looking forward to. After production issues and after the merger between Disney and 20th Century Fox, the film is finally going to see release soon.
The New Mutants premieres April 3, 2020.
