Magnum P.I. Season 5 is said to have 20 episodes but has only dropped ten episodes so far following the spring finale. Thankfully, amid the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike, fans may see its return earlier than expected.

With the release of NBC’s new fall schedule, the remaining half of Magnum P.I. Season 5 may not be released until midseason—until 2024. However, there’s still a chance for fans to see the show’s continuation soon.

Magnum P.I. Season 5’s Possible Earlier Continuation

According to TV Line, the network’s newly released schedule is said to be “strike-proof,” even if the WGA strike lasts for a couple of months more.

Shows with filmed episodes, like Magnum P.I. Season 5, may hit the small screens sooner than scheduled.

“We feel very good about where we are with our fall schedule relative to what could happen if there’s a prolonged strike,” Jeff Bader, President of Entertainment Program Planning Strategy for NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, said. “Night CourtExtended FamilyQuantum LeapFoundIrrational… those are all scripted shows that will all be on in the fall.”

However, if the WGA strikes longer than that, the likes of Law & Order: SVU and the OneChicago trifecta may stop production to make it in time for the fall premiere.

What is the 2023 Writers Guild of America Strike?

The 2023 WGA strike is the dispute between the WGA labor union, representing 1,500 writers, and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).

The clash began on May 2, exactly at 12:01 a.m., and has continued until today.

The strike is seen as the biggest interruption to American TV and film production after the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. It’s also the largest labor stopper for the company since the 2007-08 strike.

The strike has affected a number of movies, TV programs, and podcasts, with some having no choice but to continue their production without writers. Others are forced to shut down their filming altogether.

But some projects are unaffected, like those already written before May 2, unscripted, and rely on non-union staff.
